Supreme Court Will Hear Coach Prayer Case

The coach was fired for praying on the field after games.

The Supreme Court announced it will hear oral arguments in the case of Kennedy v. Bremerton School District, in which former Seattle-area football coach, Joe Kennedy, is seeking to reverse a lower court decision that allowed the school district to fire him because fans and students could see him take a knee in silent prayer at the 50-yard-line after football games.

After being suspended, Kennedy sued the school district alleging officials violated his religious freedom. He has continued to press his case in court ever since.

A member of the law firm representing Kennedy stated, “No teacher or coach should lose their job for simply expressing their faith while in public. By taking this important case, the Supreme Court can protect the right of every American to engage in private religious expression, including praying in public, without fear of punishment.

A three-judge panel of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals had previously ruled against Kennedy in 2017.

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For the Supreme Court justices when they take up the case of the high school football coach.
  • For the attorneys who are preparing the oral arguments.
  • For governing officials and federal judges to defend religious freedom.
